When a friend introduced me to Nia* a few years ago I was hooked. I found that it helped me to remember the ease of movement that I had as a young child and and I began to find myself lost in movement again. In time Nia also helped me heal my long-standing lower back problem and I’ve since grown passionate now about the way that Nia can help us to start to get back in touch with our own bodies. I am now an certfied White Belt and Nia 5 Stages Teacher teaching regular classes in East and South London. The Nia Technique is a sensory-based fitness programme drawing on 9 different movement disciplines in the areas of dance, healing and martial arts. Classes are taken barefoot and students are encouraged to tap in to their own body’s innate wisdom, moving in a way which the body was originally designed for.
Re-learning Your Body’s Way, is all about learning to listen on the inside, instead of getting all our messages about how we look and feel from without. Connecting to your body’s unique way is a powerful route to reclaiming your love for your body just the way it is as well as helping you to develop your own strategies to listen to and look after it in future.
This Playshop combines Nia 5 Stages* a movement practice based on the five stages of human development with an experience of a Nia routine** in which you will have the chance to play and explore movement to music. There will also be some time for reflection on your own experience connection to your body. Visual imagery will guide you to move in safe and expressive ways, seeking pleasure and sensation in the physical body, whilst strengthening connection with the mind-body-soul. The Nia practices which I will share with your during the workshop will help re-kindle your connection to your own body. You will leave feeling rejuvenated and with some practical tools to stay in touch with your body’s unique way.
Some feedback from previous participants in Your Body’s Way:
It was a lovely lovely day. Very interesting in many ways.. And so so great to allow my body to just be and to move and to feel its instinctual nature. I loved’ feeling’ in my body. It was fun too. You were amazing.. So calm and confidant.. And what a wonderful dancer and mover you are. You were inspirational. Karen Higgins, Shadow Work Coach
I was truly impressed by Nia and most of all by your inspiring way of leading the class. You seem to be such a natural dancer which demonstrates the power and impact of Nia. I have tried yoga, tai chi, chi gong, aikido and other types of dance and Nia seems to blend the best of other disciplines to great effect. What a great way to move and increase our own energy! Maria, Career Coach
No Playshops are currently planned but if you are interested in attending one or having one at your venue sometime in 2017 please do feel free to get in touch with me.
* Nia is a sensory-based movement practice that draws from martial arts, dance arts and healing arts. It empowers people of all shapes and sizes by connecting the body, mind, emotions and spirit.
* *Nia 5 Stages is a physical practice based on the 5 stages of human development; embryonic, creeping, crawling, standing and walking. Consciously moving through these stages as an adult re-integrates the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual elements in such a way that after just 5 minutes of practice, participants notice improvements in power, range of movement and ease in areas of their bodies other forms of exercise do not affect. This process of re-alignment allows the body to do what it is designed to do: explore its potential, self-heal and grow.
